The Cop and the Motel Kid

My name is Chris Cognac and I am a police officer in Hawthorne, California. I have "almost always" believed in the power of positive thinking, paying it forward and making a positive impact on the world around me. I have been a police officer for 23 years. I have seen so much violence, so much sorrow on the streets and as a detective working sexual assaults and child abuse that I had built up walls to protect my soul. It became hard to "feel," hard to be happy when your world is a very dark place. So I created an alternate world for myself through food and writing. To make a long story short, I began the journey of the "Hungry Detective" so I could leave my demons in another place and through food and writing, be happy again. READ ENTIRE ARTICLE HERE

When a Detective Learned These Kids’ Secret, He Took Matters Into His Own Hands: ‘I had Enough of It’

Pittsburgh detective Jack Mook is a hard-nosed, 22-year veteran of the force who lived a happy life of a bachelor — until he met two kids that changed everything. Mook, who enjoys boxing, volunteers at a local center where he teaches underprivileged kids the sport. “Mostly kids who come into this gym are street kids,” he told the CBS Evening News. “Many of them have been born into poverty.” READ ENTIRE ARTICLE/VIDEO HERE

"I'm sure this happens to police officers all the time, but rarely does this get caught on a dash cam," Gates humbly told a room of reporters during a press conference Tuesday at KDPS headquarters.

In the Line of Duty

From the very first show, I was hooked on Alaska State Troopers. I own every season and I look forward to the each one  as it comes out.

I was very saddened to read about the deaths of two troopers today, one of whom had been on the show.

Trooper Gabriel Rich and Sgt Patrick Johnson were killed in the line of duty May 1, 2014. Trooper Rich was from Pennsylvania and is survived by a fiancee and two children. Sgt. Johnson was born in Fairbanks and is survived by his wife and three daughters.

This is a vivid reminder that AST's is not just a "show," it's real life.
